The Overview

The radars align – clear through Sunday. This is their opinion right now – and we hope it stays that way. The single digit days are behind us fore now. We will creep back into the 15degree range for the next week. There might be some rain overnight Saturday as this warmer front pushes back the cold front that has been visiting fore a few days. It is not snow-tire weather yet, but it is likely some are thinking this way. We are still looking at a beautiful first tee – and hope to golf well into November! This is typical Fall weather and something with which we can live.

The Radar Never Lies!

Our opening temperature starts at 4C(FL 2C – which will drop as we get closer to sunrise) and it will rise to 11C (FL 9C) in the afternoon and then drops way down to -3C (FL -7C) overnight. Jack Frost will be through the door and on the couch overnight. Time to disconnect the outside water lines and let the taps drain.

Daylight Hours

Sunrise – 7:18AM, Sunset – 6:52PM – 11.5 hours of daylight. Golf later, finish earlier.

Pollen Index

The Pollen Index is high –the golden rod remains ever present. The tall grasses are shedding their seeds in the winds. I just need to play golf with a certain friend and his eyes set the rating.

The Weather Wizard (Soon to be Dog Guide Fore an Autistic Person)

The weather dog blew in from his morning patrol – wet belly, chilly fur and dry head. A good start to the day. He realizes his time with us is limited as he soon heads back to be trained to be with an autistic person.

The Colours index

The Colours index is MEDIUM-HIGH with the tree canopy changing nicely. This overnight temp will move this indicator to high shortly. Let’s hope the rain does not knock down too many leaves too soon.

Course Update

Golf teaches life lessons every shot. Every good shot is a result of proper planning and preparation. Every good thing that happens to us in life – ditto. Golf is littered with rules – some reasonable, some ridiculous. Sound familiar with your daily routine? Golf is about relationships – you find out more about a person in a round of golf – they live like they play. And golf has some good shots and some not so good. Just like life.

A golf course is built on dirt, but survives on its reputation. We built this course fore all golfers. Every golfer can play their own game on this course – from 6000 yards to 3000 yards – these courses are all here fore you. The tee decks are setup such that everyone can end up in the same area on the fairway for that second shot. We are in this together. And this is where we put our reputation. The ultimate compliment any course can get is from you – the player – your second (and third and..) round at the course. We thank you fore this.

Membership Has Its Advantages

We are asked about Membership at Muskoka Highlands.

Here are our Laddies – just ask them how much fun it is to golf at the Highlands!

This year we brought in the “multiply your age x $10” and that is your membership if you are less than 27 years old. We have a variation on that for the next decade – 28-37.

We have a variety of Membership options fore you – and if there isn’t one that works, let’s chat. We are creative and like to cater to needs where possible.

Carts are not necessary on our course – we are a walking course. But there are cart packages available.

We are an 18 hole course – and we have to maintain 18 holes. When we are asked about our 9 hole membership being a bit more expensive, it is because we have to maintain all 18 holes for your to have the ability to choose to play the front or the back.

Not sure about how much you will play? Buy our 12 fore 10 pack – pay for 10 – get 12 – fully transferable passes – 9 or 18 holes, carts also.

Juniors and Youth – a great deal – up til you are 25, you add a zero to your age – and bingo – there is your membership fee.

25-45 – Muliply your age x $20 and add HST – bingo – there is your membership fee.

To be fair – we stopped there, because $30 x age over 45 gets a bit more expensive!!

The Tombstone

The Tombstone is Saturday November 2nd.

A novel way to find out if you are playing to your potential. You take your handicap, add it to 69 and these are the strokes you have to play the round. When you run out of strokes, you plant your Tombstone. The course becomes a golf-graveyard, and the humour abounds.

Course Maintenance

The work-horse of any golf course is the tractor. You can’t have too many! These do so much – from loading sand as shown here, to grading, to cutting the longer grasses (we can hear your cheers), to hauling trailers of material and finally blowing snow – it all happens with this versatile machine.
