Muskoka Highlands

The Overview

Finally a wee dose of wet but that is it for today. No thunderstorms, no rain – just sun and cloud. Check out the pic of the radar…not a storm in sight. Where do the radio stations get their weather forecasts??? Always wrong!! And tomorrow is great as well. Overnight tomorrow night might bring a bit more rain – which is perfect – rain while we sleep!

Say Hello to the Tremblays – their last weekend as a tight family – it extends next weekend by 1…yes a wedding…

The Weather Network has released its Summer Forecast and it is a result of the  cold weather wall in place going from Greenland, across northern Quebec and into Hudson Bay. Our cooler air continues to flow down from Hudson Bay meeting the warm air closer to us. This will give us unstable weather fore the summer months. But there will be lots of good times included – with some intense bursts coming through.

Today's Temps

Our opening temperature starts at 17C(FL17)  and will warm to 27C (FL 34C) in the afternoon  and then down to 18C (FL 20C) overnight. Sweat in the day, chill at night – this is fantastic summer weather!!

You are only 20 minutes away with Porter Airlines!

The UV Index

The UV index is HIGH from sunrise to sunset.

Muskoka Highlands

Pollen Index

The Pollen Index is high. The bees will be getting tired? No! Honey production should be strong.

The Weather Dog (Soon to be Dog Guide)

The weather dog came in from his morning patrol – damp belly = damp grass.

The Bug Index

The Bug Index is LOW with the mosquitoes only able to appear at night. Even the deer flies are struggling to make their appearance – it is good entertainment watching Wizard try to catch them. The breeze at Muskoka Highlands keeps most winged raptors away from you while you are golfing!

The Fire index

The Fire Index fore all of Muskoka is EXTREME in this hot dry weather.

Look carefully at this map – it screems “no open fires!”. This explains the FIRE BAN on all outside fires.

We need to get through the next few weeks with no forest fires and it will be a great summer memory.

Golf is a social sport where you can chat with a friend for a couple of hours while you move the little white ball closer to that 4.25” hole. Call someone you have not seen fore a while – invite them to golf. Get re-acquainted. Cooler weather means more walkable golf. And now is the time to play. The course is in full bloom, and the greens getting better every day. The bounces and rolls are back and that short drive in June is now an incredible shot when it finally stops.

Our neighbours to the north, the Partridge Family, are hosting their final Artful Garden event. Might be time fore a visit before/after your round.

Golf Hint fore today – The most intimidating place on the golf course can be either the front door of the clubhouse for non-golfer, or the first tee where every player thinks the eyes of the world are on them. And sometimes they are. But those same eyes have to hit a ball at some point – role reversal. Golf can be a quick walk. We play 18 holes in 2.5 hours on a normal day. If you have just a couple of hours, we have a 12 hole rate. Play early. Play ready golf – first to the tee, first to hit. If your ball is likely lost, drop one close to where it went into the long stuff and play on (adding one extra stroke for the hole).

Muskoka Highlands’ staff and guests foster a Dog Guide Puppy from 6 weeks to 13 months. It is then a teary goodbye and the pup moves on to more formal training fore one of six skill sets from seeing, hearing to autism and seizures of various varieties as well as assisting those with mobility challenges.

We are on our 21st puppy. It is we – as the experience you as our guests give to the dog get them socialized to meet others without making a big fuss. This is a huge part of the training.

The other huge part is the cost – up to $25,000 per puppy. This is why we host an annual shoot-out – we believe in paying it forward.
