Dorian the weather disruptor continues her path up the East coast seemingly content to remain over the water where she maintains some level of strength. The Maritimes could have a wild weekend. The effect on us will be the drawing down of air masses from the northwest. This will not affect us today ,as we will have a bright sunny day and warmer by recent standards. Friday will have mixed weather. As it looks right now, there is the real chance of rain showers more in north Muskoka than south (dividing line looks like tower hill) which will move about randomly from early morning til mid-afternoon. They will then clear the zone and leave us a nice weekend.
The Radar Never Lies!
Our opening temperature starts at 4C(FL16C) and it will warm to 19C (FL 19C) in the afternoon and then back down to 10C (FL 10C) overnight. The winds are being pulled from the North and this brings the cooler weather to us. Let’s call this the Dorian-Effect!
These temps will continue their slide as Muskoka tilts away from the sun.
The UV Index
The UV index is HIGH from sunrise to sunset.
The Pollen Index is high. Just ask an allergy-prone person – they will tell you that the Golden Rod is here!!
The Weather Wizard (Soon to be Dog Guide)
The weather dog slid in from his morning patrol – damp belly = wet grass.
The view from here is great!
The Bug Index
The Bug Index is LOW – only house flies trying to get inside fore the change in season…
We have officially entered the layer-up-layer-down-layer-back-up state of golf. The clear overnight sky is now an indication of cooler overnight temps, and a chilly start to the day. Golf shirt, light sweater, wind jacket – and we will feel like the Michelin Man over our first shot. But the sunshine will warm our mental state. With the natural exertion from playing a couple of holes, the jacket will be the first to go, then the sweater. Just remember to take them with you – or our lost and found department will become a clothing depot!
A golf course is built on dirt, but survives on its reputation. Muskoka Highlands is known for our challenging layout and friendly conditions – from the clubhouse to the 18th green. Wide fairways lined with tall fescue (we are still looking for the last person who went ball-hunting in there!). The ultimate compliment any course can get is from you – the player. The ultimate compliment is your second (and third and..) round at the course. And we thank you fore this.
With the waning daylight hours, we start later and finish earlier. There are still many golfable hours in a day – which ones are yours?
Safety Hint –sit only on the seat, hands and feet inside the cart. Cart surfing on the back of the cart can result in serious injury – please do not try to imitate the PGA caddies as they head back fore a playoff hole!!
Membership Has Its Advantages
We are asked about Membership at Muskoka Highlands.
This year we brought in the “multiply your age x $10” and that is your membership if you are less than 27 years old. We have a variation on that for the next decade – 28-37.
We have a variety of Membership options fore you – and if there isn’t one that works, let’s chat. We are creative and like to cater to needs where possible.
Carts are not necessary on our course – we are a walking course. But there are cart packages available.
We are an 18 hole course – and we have to maintain 18 holes. When we are asked about our 9 hole membership being a bit more expensive, it is because we have to maintain all 18 holes for your to have the ability to choose to play the front or the back.
Not sure about how much you will play? Buy our 12 fore 10 pack – pay for 10 – get 12 – fully transferable passes – 9 or 18 holes, carts also.
Juniors and Youth – a great deal – up til you are 25, you add a zero to your age – and bingo – there is your membership fee.
25-45 – Muliply your age x $20 and add HST – bingo – there is your membership fee.
To be fair – we stopped there, because $30 x age over 45 gets a bit more expensive!!
Ok Junior Golfers – you have School starting today. The golf course is in great shape and you are always welcome after school and on the weekend. See you soon!
