The Overview

Well December – you are here and we know it. You have pushed the limits on covering us in snow in a short windy period of time. Special weather statements remain in effect as the North winds clear the remnants of the snow bomb that hit yesterday. While it was a tired remainder of the storm that paralyzed the US mid-west over their Thanksgiving period, it was enough to cause some havoc here in Ontario. The good news is that we will just be cold today, as the snow moves out around 9 this morning. There is the possibility of another front moving in from the north-west overnight Tuesday, but time will tell on this one.

The Radar Never Lies!

Our opening temperature starts at -6C(FL -11C) and it will rise to -1C (FL -6C) in the afternoon and the drop back to -11C (FL -15C) overnight. Bundle up.

The north winds are taking the snow front south out of our region today. Tomorrow, the winds will shift to the West early in the day and end up out of the south – all at less than 10kph.

Daylight Hours

Sunrise – 7:36AM, Sunset – 4:35PM. Like sand in the hourglass, 9 hours of daylight continue to slip into 15 hours of darkness.

Road Report

Just about every plow in Ontario is on the road this morning, cleaning up from the snow bomb yesterday. They are likely to be out most of the day – give them room to do their work. Their working speed might not be fast enough for some, but it is fast enough for a safe trip for all.

School Bus Status

There are no Muskoka cancellations at this point. The plows will clear the way! Except in Kawartha where seemingly most busses are cancelled.

Course Update

Golf is like life – life is like golf. So it is hard to keep it out of mind – even if Muskoka courses are closed for the next 131 days. With the mild wet weather, we keep getting asked if the pins are back in – they are not. But why wait for Spring. The hi-def indoor simulator is operating and starting to get some play. The smiles and chatter all indicate a great time. Our simulator league starts December 1 – with 3 practice rounds before the new year. And the one round on the same course for everyone every week through the end of March. Prizing, skins – the game is the same, but the walk is shorter.

A golf course is built on dirt, but survives on its reputation. This weather has closed the course to golf but not walking. This weather is permitting the fairway recovery to continue as we see the grass coming back strongly even at these temps. The ponds are frozen and are tempting fate of those who are keen to start skating on them. Testing the ice thickness is now protocol – less that 4 inches and it is likely that you should wait a wee bit. There is lots of cold coming. All is good on the ground. And this is where we put our reputation. The ultimate compliment any course can get is from you – the player – your second (and third and..) round at the course. We thank you fore this.

A Special Day In A Wonderful Setting

Weddings are a special day for many people involved. Here at Muskoka Highlands, we reduce that stress with attention to every detail.
But our distinguishing feature is our setting – both inside and out. The clubhouse is designed to hold about 85 guests and the picture shows how this can happen. For larger parties, we engage a tent professional to create a unique setting outside.

Do you want to feel the warmth of a timber-frame clubhouse? Drop us an inquiry – weddings@muskokahighlands.com. We will respond and we will work with you to make your day special.
