The Overview
We are in the hot zone now. And ideally we would like to remain in some version of this. It gets cool enough at night to deliver perfect sleeping conditions. This extreme heat will move out sometime Saturday as the radar shows a push of northern air coming into our area. It will likely bring more livable daytime temps, which is not a bad thing. There is no real rain system showing through Sunday. There are some pop-up storms north and south of Muskoka – this is what you might hear on the radio. But not to worry – none look like they are heading towards us. This heat brings life-style changes with it. Hydration is the key word to remember – and water is the best hydrator we have (sorry beer!).
The Weather Network has released its Summer Forecast and it is a result of the cold weather wall in place going from Greenland, across northern Quebec and into Hudson Bay. Our cooler air continues to flow down from Hudson Bay meeting the warm air closer to us. This will give us unstable weather fore the summer months. But there will be lots of good times included – with some intense bursts coming through.
Today's Temps
Our opening temperature starts at 17C(FL 17C) and will warm to 30C (FL 39C) in the afternoon and then down to 20C (FL 21C) overnight. It continues to be a hot week!
Heat 1 – Bugs 0.
The UV Index
The UV index is HIGH from sunrise to sunset.
Pollen Index
The Pollen Index is high. The bees will be loving this. Honey production should be strong.
The Weather Dog (Replaces the Weather Stone!)
The weather dog came in from his morning patrol – wet belly = wet grass.
The Bug Index
The Bug Index is LOW with the blackflies and the mosquitoes both being victim to the high heat. The warmer temps will eliminate more of them as we play bug free fore the most part. The breeze at Muskoka Highlands keeps most winged raptors away from you while you are golfing!
The Fire index
The Fire Index is moving with the temps – going from low to MODERATE in this hot dry weather. While we are still relatively damp at ground level, now is the time to adjust our use of outside fires to reflect this changing condition.
Course Update
With yet another hot day on the horizon, it might be best to play your round early in the day, or later in the afternoon. The roll has returned to Muskoka Highlands and the firm turf is giving a bit more yardage to those shots. Take lots of water with you – and we have more when you need it. Hats are back in style during the day.
Golf Hint fore today – Summer daytime heat is increasing so picking the right time of day to play is important. We recognize that time is a key element fore the next 60 days of summer. Time to play, time for the dock – a delicate balance. We play 18 holes in 2.5 hours on a normal day. If you have just a couple of hours, we have a 12 hole rate. Play early. Play ready golf. If your ball is likely lost, drop one close to where it went into the long stuff and play on (adding one extra stroke for the hole).
