The Overview

The radar is clear through Friday – that is the short term. However, the warm weather is being pushed east by a large Alberta Clipper that is creating havoc in the mid-west over the next 2 days. It will get to us closer to the weekend – without the snow, just some spotty rain, possibly. GBay might have something to do with the final form that gets to Muskoka. While we will enjoy sunshine and warm weather during the day, the overnight temps will start to get lower and lower. This is typical Fall weather and something with which we can live.

The Radar Never Lies!

Our opening temperature starts at +0C(FL+0C) and it will rise to 18C (FL 18C) in the afternoon and down to 5C (FL +3C) overnight. Jack Frost is sleeping in our back yard.

Daylight Hours

Sunrise – 7:25AM, Sunset – 6:42PM – Daylight is like a good dentist – we don’t really feel it being removed. Plan to golf before noon at this time of the year.

Pollen Index

The Pollen Index is high –the golden rod remains ever present. The tall grasses are shedding their seeds in the winds. I just need to play golf with a certain friend and his eyes set the rating.

The Weather Wizard (Soon to be Dog Guide Fore an Autistic Person)

The weather dog blew in from his morning patrol – dry belly, and dry head. A good start to the day. One week today he heads back to be trained to be with an autistic person.

The Colours index

The Colours index is HIGH with the tree canopy changing nicely. It is great to see the change without having to play in the fallen leaves – only at Muskoka Highlands. These temps will accelerate the painting of our landscape.

Course Update

Golf is not an elite sport. There are over 4million golfers in Canada. While the focus of many golf associations is on the elite/professional golfer, the focus of the course owner is on you – the golfer who is just trying to hit the ball and have some fun. There are more of you than there are golfers on the television on Sunday. You are important to us – we will prove it – every day. Just like life.

A golf course is built on dirt, but survives on its reputation. The conditions this year have started in a dramatic fashion, and are finishing in a traditional fashion – excellent from tee to green. Hats off to our greens crew who have worked tirelessly fore you this year, We are in this together. And this is where we put our reputation. The ultimate compliment any course can get is from you – the player – your second (and third and..) round at the course. We thank you fore this.

Safety Hint – these temps are going to set up the roads for black ice. Drive carefully in the dark!

Membership Has Its Advantages

We are asked about Membership at Muskoka Highlands.

Here are our Laddies – just ask them how much fun it is to golf at the Highlands!

This year we brought in the “multiply your age x $10” and that is your membership if you are less than 27 years old. We have a variation on that for the next decade – 28-37.

We have a variety of Membership options fore you – and if there isn’t one that works, let’s chat. We are creative and like to cater to needs where possible.

Carts are not necessary on our course – we are a walking course. But there are cart packages available.

We are an 18 hole course – and we have to maintain 18 holes. When we are asked about our 9 hole membership being a bit more expensive, it is because we have to maintain all 18 holes for your to have the ability to choose to play the front or the back.

Not sure about how much you will play? Buy our 12 fore 10 pack – pay for 10 – get 12 – fully transferable passes – 9 or 18 holes, carts also.

Juniors and Youth – a great deal – up til you are 25, you add a zero to your age – and bingo – there is your membership fee.

25-45 – Muliply your age x $20 and add HST – bingo – there is your membership fee.

To be fair – we stopped there, because $30 x age over 45 gets a bit more expensive!!

The Tombstone

The Tombstone is Saturday November 2nd.

A novel way to find out if you are playing to your potential. You take your handicap, add it to 69 and these are the strokes you have to play the round. When you run out of strokes, you plant your Tombstone. The course becomes a golf-graveyard, and the humour abounds.

A Special Day In A Wonderful Setting

Weddings are a special day for many people involved. Here at Muskoka Highlands, we reduce that stress with attention to every detail.
But our distinguishing feature is our setting – both inside and out. The clubhouse is designed to hold about 85 guests and the picture shows how this can happen. For larger parties, we engage a tent professional to create a unique setting outside.

Do you want to feel the warmth of a timber-frame clubhouse? Drop us an inquiry – weddings@muskokahighlands.com. We will respond and we will work with you to make your day special.
