Denver W. Dafoe
CPGA, CGTF Teaching Professional
When I was 6-years of age my neighbour had invited me over to try golf. He got me set up to hit some shots at his hitting net, where he taught me the fundamentals, the only problem, not knowing what hand I was. I instantly became hooked and began participating in the junior night. After struggling through my first year of golf I decided to switch to left-handed, this was the time I started to excel in my youth. I would ride my bike down to the course at 8:00 am in the morning and bike home at 8:00 pm spending every moment of sunlight at the course.
The practice began to payoff in my teenage years. Allowing me to qualify for provincial championships, and national championships. During this stage in my life tournaments started getting expensive, it was time to get a job. I was hired as a range boy at Muskoka Highlands, and moved quickly through turf maintenance, and into the proshop. This is my 6th year at Muskoka Highlands and my second year being a CPGA Professional.
I am currently enrolled at Georgian College for a Bachelor of Business in Golf Management where I hold an average of 83%, this program suits my job position well. I hope to advance through all positions at a golf course and eventually move my way into coaching collegiate golf.
People have always told me “do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” This represents my scenario perfectly.
