The Overview

The SpriNter weather roller coaster continues to carry us through March. We are warming today and overnight with southerly flow of wind bringing rain to us while we sleep. Tomorrow the winds turn decidedly cooler and snow will be skirting the region. The weekend is looking a wee bit cooler, but the sun is so powerful it is likely that the melt will continue. The Winter sports are starting to wrapup – with hockey playoffs almost complete, and the snow mobile trails showing as officially closed, but there are still the sounds of machines around the golf course. The ski hills are relying on their base to have a good Spring Break rush. We have entered weather transition – we do it every year. With some anticipation of an early Spring. And the reality that we really don’t know. We just deal with it when it comes. Make every day count – it matters.

The Radar Never Lies!

Our opening temperature starts at -3C(-5C) and it will rise to +6 (FL+3C) in the afternoon and then slip to +5C (FL +1C). Welcome to SpriNter!
Today the winds start from the SE at 6kph gradually increasing in speed to 17kph this evening. Overnight, they swing to the West increasing in speed again into the 25kph range. This will bring the Western Chill into the region fore the weekend.

School Bus Status

School bus report – no weather cancellations at this point.

Snowmobile Report

OFSC is reporting 12991km (yesterday 13800 km) of open trails. The warmer temps have closed all local trails, leaving the North as the spot to ride. We still hear sleds moving about as riders pick their way across the region. Drive safely!

Ski Report

The Ski Hills are showing the stress of this weather. The little green dots show the hills that are open. A day of recovery. With Spring Break starting tomorrow, it is hopeful that it will be a good ski week. Best check with your hill to get their conditions directly from them. Detailed info at onthesnow.ca/Ontario.

Course Update

There are 28 days til green grass – but the rain will continue to erode the snow-pac and bring us to green. Golf is so close – the heart will be racing knowing green grass is starting to appear. Some courses in the Niagara region are open now. We are constantly asked about our highway sign as people use it as a harbinger of Spring. Your clubs will know this and will want to hit a ball. Do you? Is your game ready for the golf season? We know you are getting restless to golf with your friends. The golf bug bite will continue to itch and needs to be scratched. While getting warmer, it is still not warm enough to get outside and play. Nothing beats a few holes of golf with your family and friends. The hi-def indoor simulator is operating and ready fore you and your foursome. Or bring 8 and play a two-person scramble with 4 teams. It is great to see people converging on the simmy from North Bay and Toronto for friendly banter and a few hours of fun. It is time to start getting your swing in shape fore opening day. We will clean up the rust on your first swings as part of the deal! Call the clubhouse 7056461060 to book your time.

The water has been running off the course for a few days now. The rain tonight will add to the flow. The sun is starting to expose the greens and they are in great shape. We can tell because our super – Mitch Guy – is pretty excited to do his daily walk out on the course.
