Today will restore some snow mobile trails, ski hills and snow piles for the kids. It will totally disrupt all of Ontario through til the early hours of tomorrow morning as a very large storm front pushes from the southwest and hits a cold front in the north east. It will hit Muskoka around 10AM in the southern parts, and cover us entirely by noon.
Our opening temperature starts at -13C (FL -18C) and will rise through the day getting to -8C (FL -17C) in the afternoon and then to -7C (FL -16C) overnight. There are heavy winds in this storm to keep the windchill upon us.
The UV index will not be on today as the sun will not be out.
The reflective index is strong as the remaining snow is one of the best mirrors for sunshine. Sunglasses will likely be needed today!!
The Pond Index is at Strong. As always, caution is needed on any frozen surface. Prepare your personal Zambonis – you will need them tomorrow morning.
Road report – the Muskoka roads for the most part are showing as blacktop. But this is only temporary. Roads in Southern Ontario are starting to show the effects of the oncoming storm. If you had to be anywhere south, you should have gone yesterday. Good luck to the crews trying to keep the roads open!
School Busses are NOT RUNNING as of press time. For current info on the busses click here.
The Ski Resorts are wide open – more here . Conditions vary by resort, and grooming will be key. This snow will extend the season!!
The snow mobile trails remain closed in the south of Muskoka and many in our region show as marginal. Lake slush remains a serious problem. Click here for more information on the status of registered trails.
