The Overview
Three days in and August is online for a wonderful month. Sunny and warm. The weather is now coming from the west, as it usually does. Before radar, we looked at Calgary weather and added 2 days to predict our weather. No rain there either. The rain is trying to get here – it will be wet in NorthWest Ontario this weekend, but not here. This weekend is the pinnacle of summer in Muskoka and it is looking fantastic – the time to be in Muskoka doing outdoor activities in Muskoka!
The Weather Network’s Summer Forecast and it is a result of the cold weather wall in place going from Greenland, across northern Quebec and into Hudson Bay. Our cooler air continues to flow down from Hudson Bay and now the NorthWest meeting the warm air closer to us. We are benefitting from this right now. The warm wet from the south is being kept away by this cool dry northern push.
The Radar Never Lies!
Our opening temperature starts at 9C(FL8) and will warm to 25C (FL 32C) in the afternoon and then down to 13C (FL 12C) overnight. Overnight warming – keep wishing for rain overnight soon!
?
The UV Index
The UV index is HIGH from sunrise to sunset.
Pollen Index
The Pollen Index is high. The bees will be getting tired? No! Honey production should be strong.
The Weather Wizard (Soon to be Dog Guide)
The weather dog came in from his morning patrol – damp belly = damp grass.
The Bug Index
The Bug Index is LOW with the mosquitoes only able to appear at night. Even the deer flies are struggling to make their appearance – it is good entertainment watching Wizard try to catch them. The breeze at Muskoka Highlands keeps most winged raptors away from you while you are golfing!
The Fire index
The Fire Index is back to HIGH in this hot dry weather.
A full burning ban has been lifted fore Muskoka.
The weather map shows yellow where red existed yesterday.
Please burn of necessity and carefully – your neighbours and your firefighters appreciate it.
Course Update
A quick memory from April of this year compared to this week – 11 green – this is where we started – you will be amazed where we have come – and where will go with our greens. Mother Nature is a cruel partner at times!!
Golf is a social sport where you can chat with a friend for a couple of hours while you move the little white ball closer to that 4.25” hole. Call someone you have not seen fore a while – invite them to golf. Get re-acquainted. Cooler weather means more walkable golf. And now is the time to play. The course is in full bloom, and the greens getting better every day. The bounces and rolls are back and that short drive in June is now an incredible shot when it finally stops.
Golf Hint fore today – Bring a friend to golf – and if they haven’t played before, try the driving range for your first visit. Orientation and trial go so much better on the range. If you are not comfortable teaching them all of your habits that might not work fore you, then ask our pro to help.
Golf can be a quick walk. We play 18 holes in 2.5 hours on a normal day. If you have just a couple of hours, we have a 12 hole rate. Play early. Play ready golf – first to the tee, first to hit. If your ball is likely lost, drop one close to where it went into the long stuff and play on (adding one extra stroke for the hole).
Safety Hint – if you are in a golf cart, keep your feet inside the vehicle. If you like to drag your foot outside the cart, you just need to catch a toe on a piece of dirt – and wham – you will have a broken ankle!

Kubota North $200,000 ShootOut Fore Dog Guides
Muskoka Highlands’ staff and guests foster a Dog Guide Puppy from 6 weeks to 13 months. It is then a teary goodbye and the pup moves on to more formal training fore one of six skill sets from seeing, hearing to autism and seizures of various varieties as well as assisting those with mobility challenges.
We are on our 21st puppy. It is we – as the experience you as our guests give to the dog get them socialized to meet others without making a big fuss. This is a huge part of the training.
The other huge part is the cost – up to $25,000 per puppy. This is why we host an annual shoot-out – we believe in paying it forward.
Join us on Monday August 19th – have lunch, play golf, meet a working product from your work (Ellis now called Ancaster) who will be here to watch someone get another Hole In One for $5k – like Robinson Clark did last year. Click Here to go to the tournament site!!
