The Overview

The Polar Vortex continues to pound Muskoka Parry Sound with cold temps and high winds. This is snow time. And it will last until late on Sunday when the Southerly flow of air comes back. Our chill temps will keep the snow streamers active through tomorrow making driving a challenge and keeping everyone aware of changing visibility when we are travelling at higher speeds. Winter sports love this dose of snow, and the plows are somewhat less amused. Ah the confusion of weather, the most discussed issue in Canada. The Spring forecast is for normal temps – but what has normal become? It is forecasting above normal precip fore our region which could lead to some flooding. Wiarton Willie is nervously awaiting Spring – is he right?

The Radar Never Lies!

Our opening temperature starts at -15C(-19C) and it will hold at -10C (FL-17C) in the afternoon and then slip to -18C (FL -25C). Old Man Winter has released the Polar Vortex haymaker that will be here for another day or so.
The heavy winds spend the day from the NW in the 20kph range and stay there fore the day bringing the snow off the bottom of GBay all day. The snow streamers will blow through the alley between GBay and Lake Ontario making driving tricky due to their random nature causing us to drive in and out of them as we head South. They will ease on Sunday. Til then, they will be a factor.

Daylight Hours

Sunrise – 6:57AM, Sunset – 6:03PM. Gotta love the line up of 6s that will carry us for the next few weeks! The sun and wind will work their magic now getting us closer to Spring. March 17th – equinox.

Road Report

Road report – The roads in the lee of GBay are showing as snow covered with poor visibility. Travelling could be tricky with the blowing snow reducing visibility very quickly. The sun is helping melt the snow on the road surface so the major arteries clean quickly. Secondary routes will likely be tracked black with snow in between until we get into warmer temps . The plows are all out – but Mother Nature holds the cards.

School Bus Status

School bus report – Muskoka Buses all running. South east of here many are cancelled. This includes Kawartha and Fenelon Falls and surrounds.

Snowmobile Trail Update – OFSC is reporting 25063 km of open trails. This new snow will provide some relief and has reopened some trails. But most of the sledding will have to happen in the North for March

Ski Report

The Ski Hills are still in good shape with nearly all runs and lifts open. The bases look good which should carry them into Spring Break. The new snow will make for fun skiing on the weekend. Detailed info at

A Special Day In A Wonderful Setting

Weddings are a special day for many people involved. Here at Muskoka Highlands, we reduce that stress with attention to every detail.
But our distinguishing feature is our setting – both inside and out. The clubhouse is designed to hold about 85 guests and the picture shows how this can happen. For larger parties, we engage a tent professional to create a unique setting outside.

Do you want to feel the warmth of a timber-frame clubhouse? Drop us an inquiry – We will respond and we will work with you to make your day special.
