The Overview

Not that Wizard and Hendrik care but….The battle of the 45th has commenced – this time with the forces of warm trying to push out the cold forces. It will be a see saw affair. It looks like we will be relatively warm for the next 2 weeks, but in like a lamb, out like a lion so we can expect March to have some cold left in it. The only thing that is certain – is that this could change at any time. Today the roads are mostly black, but with the random snow patches cruising in from the West, visibility could change quickly. The snowmobile trail system is starting to show stress from the warm temps and rain, so the sledders will be making the most of their time remaining to run any distance. The ski hills are remaining in pretty good shape, but the snow will be getting progressively heavier as we get warmer snow/rain passing through the region. March – you always have a bag of weather tricks you like to open from time to time!

The Radar Never Lies!

Our opening temperature starts at -1C(-4C) and it will scoot up to +0C (FL-5C) in the afternoon and then slip to -4C (FL -9C). A Spring-like tease.
Today the winds are coming from the West across GBay at 20kph bringing random bunches of snow across Ontario. Being in the lee of GBay, Parry Sound Muskoka can expect its fair share. By tomorrow morning, they will swing to the South and this will change the mix of precip to include some random rain.

Daylight Hours

Sunrise – 6:49AM, Sunset – 6:09PM. Love that the 6s carry us for the next few weeks! We are now in the final March to the 17th – equinox.

Road Report

The plows are out across Ontario. Most of the major routes are showing as black, so it will be a maintenance program to deal with the light snow that can become ice on the highways if it is not cleared or melted quickly. In the southern lee of GBay, there is still some snow activity, keeping these roads as partly snow covered. The plows will remain busy through the weekend with the random snow coming through.

School Bus Status

School bus report – no weather cancellations at this point.

Snowmobile Report

OFSC is reporting 24270 km of open trails. The warmer temps continue to reduce the overall length of open trails. It will be a wet day on the trails. Safety is always needed – even moreso in these conditions.

Ski Report

The Ski Hills are still in great shape. As we approach Spring, we can see that some operators are reducing open times, and some lifts are closing a well. It is best to check with your hill to get their conditions directly from them. Detailed info at onthesnow.ca/Ontario.

Course Update

There are 37 days til green grass. Golf is this close – the heart will be racing knowing green grass is around the weather corner. The rain today will knock-down the snow-pack and the sun will still heat through the cloud cover. The winds will be lifting the moisture formed in the melt to speed the shrinkage. Your clubs will know this and will want to hit a ball. Do you? Is your game ready for the golf season? We know you are getting restless to golf with your friends. The golf bug bite will continue to itch and needs to be scratched. While getting warmer, it is still not warm enough to get outside and play. Nothing beats a few holes of golf with your family. The hi-def indoor simulator is operating and ready fore you and your foursome. Or bring 8 and play a two-person scramble with 4 teams. Times are full today so book now for tomorrow! It is time to start getting the swing in shape fore opening day, or before you might be headed South fore a golf trip. Call the clubhouse 7056461060 to book your time.

The grass will be glad it has its snow covering in this chill. The melt has started to expose green grass. Old Man Winter got grumpy and decided to hide this grass – but this is only temporary.

The Dogs

Dog Update –Wizard graduated last night from the Autism Assist Program with a young man who lives in Belleville. They are truly a great fit. We were pleased that Wiz was very happy to see us. The only tears shed were the ones listening to the stories of the impact these dogs have on the entire families’ lives. They are as important to the caregiver as they are to their direct client. Well done Wizard – you are off to a great career! I did warn them that if he saw a golf cart, he would likely try to sneak onto the passenger seat.
