A bit of a mixed bag of weather today and it will depend on where in Muskoka you might be. Early this morning, there is a chance of snow in the northern part of Muskoka and possibly the southern tip. Then about 2PM there will be snow/freezing rain Port Sydney and north, and freezing rain south of that. This will last in some form til about 6PM when northwesterly winds will blow the system to the southeast. Overnight, rain will start about 2AM and come in waves until about 5AM, with a brief respite until about 10AM when heavier rains arrive til about noon. This pattern will repeat itself at 7PM through the evening tomorrow.
Our opening temperature starts at -5(FL -9) and will warm to +1C (FL -3C) in the afternoon and then to -0C (FL -4C) overnight.
The UV index will be mixed today – be careful on the snow.
The reflective index is strong as the remaining snow is one of the best mirrors for sunshine.
The Pond Index will likely shut down this week as rain will reduce the safety factor such that travel on the lakes will become a real challenge. Caution on the ice. The big one might have to wait til you are back in your boat looking for him.
Road report –the plows are quiet and the roads are black. Caution is advised as melting creates black ice conditions for walking and driving.
School Busses are NOT RUNNING all week – enjoy Spring Break!. For current info on the busses click here.
The Ski Resorts be challenged with this rain – more here . Conditions vary by resort, and grooming will be key. Enjoy your final days on the slopes!
The rain is taking its toll on the snow mobile trails in Muskoka and North with ones closer to Georgian Bay showing as marginal. Lake slush remains a serious problem. Click here for more information on the status of registered trails.
