The Overview

Hello December – welcome and we hear you coming – loud and snowy! But then this is what you are supposed to be and life on the 45th would not be the same without your weather. It now looks like Santa is riding into Bracebridge on a snow front that will stay well after he has entertained everyone. The snow should start in earnest across Muskoka around 1PM, with the western area getting it a wee bit sooner. And it does not seem to run out of steam before tomorrow morning. The North winds will eventually push the system south and we will be back in the clear – but cold.

The Radar Never Lies!

Our opening temperature starts at -9C(FL -15C) and it will rise to -5C (FL -12C) in the afternoon and the drop back to -6C (FL -12C) overnight. Bundle up.

The ill winds from the East remain steady around 15kph, swinging to the North increasing in speed a wee bit to 17kph overnight and into tomorrow, moving the storm out of the region.

Daylight Hours

Sunrise – 7:35AM, Sunset – 4:35PM. Like sand in the hourglass, 9 hours of daylight continue to slip into 15 hours of darkness.

Road Report

The roads are clear in most of Muskoka right now. They will be on notice to be ready for around noon today. There are plenty of plows out in SW Ontario as the storm has already started there.

School Bus Status

There are no cancellations – bundle up – weekend!

Course Update

Golf is like life – life is like golf. So it is hard to keep it out of mind – even if Muskoka courses are closed for the next 131 days. With the mild wet weather, we keep getting asked if the pins are back in – they are not. But why wait for Spring. The hi-def indoor simulator is operating and starting to get some play. The smiles and chatter all indicate a great time. Our simulator league starts December 1 – with 3 practice rounds before the new year. And the one round on the same course for everyone every week through the end of March. Prizing, skins – the game is the same, but the walk is shorter.

A golf course is built on dirt, but survives on its reputation. This weather has closed the course to golf but not walking. This weather is permitting the fairway recovery to continue as we see the grass coming back strongly even at these temps. The ponds are frozen and are tempting fate of those who are keen to start skating on them. Testing the ice thickness is now protocol – less that 4 inches and it is likely that you should wait a wee bit. There is lots of cold coming. All is good on the ground. And this is where we put our reputation. The ultimate compliment any course can get is from you – the player – your second (and third and..) round at the course. We thank you fore this.

A Special Day In A Wonderful Setting

Weddings are a special day for many people involved. Here at Muskoka Highlands, we reduce that stress with attention to every detail.
But our distinguishing feature is our setting – both inside and out. The clubhouse is designed to hold about 85 guests and the picture shows how this can happen. For larger parties, we engage a tent professional to create a unique setting outside.

Do you want to feel the warmth of a timber-frame clubhouse? Drop us an inquiry – weddings@muskokahighlands.com. We will respond and we will work with you to make your day special.
