The Overview

It is not easy when the radar systems (all  4) do not agree. One shows clear – would love to believe it. But the others show some variation of the roaming rains that came through Fri Sat last week. The paid forecasters are showing no rain on their apps – but the radar on their apps show the random rain. The pink horizon to the West might indicate rain. And given that we have gone a few days without rain, you might keep an umbrella and rain jacket handy today. If you don’t use them, then it is cheap insurance. Prepare for the worst – enjoy anything less!

The Weather Network’s Summer Forecast and it is a result of the  cold weather wall in place going from Greenland, across northern Quebec and into Hudson Bay. Our cooler air continues to flow down from Hudson Bay and now the NorthWest meeting the warm air closer to us. We are benefitting from this right now. The warm wet from the south is being kept away by this cool dry northern push.

The Radar Never Lies!

Our opening temperature starts at 11C(FL11C) and will warm to 25C (FL 31C) in the afternoon and then back down to 16C (FL 16C) overnight. The weather of change back to Summer!

The UV Index

The UV index is HIGH from sunrise to sunset.

Pollen Index

The Pollen Index is high. The bees will be getting tired? No! Honey production should be strong.

The Weather Wizard (Soon to be Dog Guide)

The weather dog came in from his morning patrol – damp belly = damp grass.

The Bug Index

The Bug Index is LOW with the mosquitoes only able to appear at night. The breeze at Muskoka Highlands keeps most winged raptors away from you while you are golfing!

The Fire index

The Fire Index is starting to back down with the recent rains.

Course Update

How are you enjoying August so far? The rain has added a dimension not around in July – bring life back to grass that goes dormant no matter how much you water. As fore us, exercise is a necessity. Golf is a great walk.  Cooler weather means more walkable golf. And now is the time to play. If you decide in the off hours, just hop online on your phone and make your booking. The course is in full bloom, and the greens have fully recovered. And everyone gets a longer drive right now!

Golf Hint fore today – Golf – hit, chat walk, hit again and repeat. Nothing beats burning calories, walking a few holes and chatting. Add in some aerobics swinging the clubs, and some stretching bending over to tee the ball or retrieve it from the hole after sinking a 30 foot snaky putt and you have your own personal fitness trainer all set.

Golf can be a quick walk. We play 18 holes in 2.5 hours on a normal day. If you have just a couple of hours, we have a 12 hole rate. Play early. Play ready golf – first to the tee, first to hit.

Safety Hint – if you are in a golf cart, please keep your feet inside the vehicle. You just need to catch a toe on a piece of dirt – and wham – you will have a broken ankle! If you work on a golf course and the MOL Inspector sees you driving with your foot out – an immediate summons and $1,000 fine – it is a significant cause of injuries!!

Kubota North $200,000 ShootOut Fore Dog Guides

Muskoka Highlands’ staff and guests foster a Dog Guide Puppy from 6 weeks to 13 months. It is then a teary goodbye and the pup moves on to more formal training fore one of six skill sets from seeing, hearing to autism and seizures of various varieties as well as assisting those with mobility challenges.

We are on our 21st puppy. It is we – as the experience you as our guests give to the dog get them socialized to meet others without making a big fuss. This is a huge part of the training.

The other huge part is the cost – up to $25,000 per puppy. This is why we host an annual shoot-out – we believe in paying it forward.

Join us on Monday August 19th – have lunch, play golf, meet a working product from your work (Ellis now called Ancaster) who will be here to watch someone get another Hole In One for $5k – like Robinson Clark did last year. Click Here to go to the tournament site!!
