The Overview

Old Man Winter has pushed back with a snow front that will last til around noon when it will change to rain for a couple of hours. Outside activities have been all but stopped. Walking is still encouraged, with physical separation, while remaining social. South Monck has never seen so many walkers! And the malls remain open for walking (do we really need a new pair of shoes right now?). You might have read a senior exec in a golf association give his personal recommendation under the guise of a guiding association in Canadian golf. This is one opinion from someone focussed on professional golf, not you. We as operators are focussed on you – the wee player who loves that one great shot in a round. That wee player who loves to walk about and get some exercise. And yes there are a few who insist on riding. As humans, we still need exercise and the health authorities are now speaking about mental as well as physical health. They are linked. Get outside today – get exercise – on a responsible basis. You will feel better in isolation. So if the mall is still available, then the golf course is an even better location fore maintaining mental health through these challenges.
We will get sunshine to perk up our spirits in this challenging time. Encouraging news about Covid – have we started to flatten? Remain committed to self-isolation with a reasonable edge. There is lots of room in PSM for walking and other activities. Maintain your mental health. Help others keep theirs. Keep an eye on your neighbour – especially if they are elderly (remember – there are more Canadians over 65 than under 16).

The Radar Never Lies!

Our opening temperature starts at -3C(FL -8C) and will warm to +3C (FL +1C) in the afternoon and then chill to -2C (FL -5C) overnight. Old Man Winter continues to negotiate with Mother Nature so we know who will win this one.
Today the winds come from the SEast in that 10kph range. They will gradually move to the West then NW later today and into tomorrow. Then they swing to the East late in the day all the time around the 10kph. The only certainty about the winds is that they will change direction daily.

Road Report

Road report – the snow front is in, and the plows are out across Southern Ontario. This will be the story fore most of the day as the snow will turn to rain around noon so ice will become the issue for a wee while.

Course Update

We are thinking about 17 days til the course might open. This new snow will likely not last long on the surface as it will be down in warmer temps. The golf course is experiencing normal early Spring conditions. The sun is going to work to reduce the snow-pac and this is exposing more green grass. Soon the course will be clear of the white stuff. Then it just needs to warm to get the grass to start to grow more consistently.
With the Covid shutdown affecting so many, it is somewhat a double edge decision for us in the outdoor business where small groups come for exercise and mental health improvement. We believe that golf will be a safe and welcome relief while limiting our physical interaction with others. We will follow all guidelines – and we hope you will too. There will be guidelines for prepaying, checking-in in small numbers, with limited access to the clubhouse. Carts will be single ride only and a game-day decision as they add to the wiping routine to keep them sterile fore your use. We want you to leave here in a better mental health state than when you arrived. You have to forgive yourself fore missing that 3 foot putt on 18 – remember what is important!

Are you of age less than 40? Ask about our graduated member programs. $10 per year under 26, $20 x age til you are 40. We know you need to keep some cash for living – so we have made this as affordable as possible. Call us – we will confirm this.

Think outside the normal golf tournament box. We have great options involving FootGolf and LawnBowling that can involve the non-golfer in your event! Call us – we some unique concepts.

The Simulator is Open!

The simulator is open for groups of 4 or fewer. No gathering. Distance kept. Fun had. All safe, all mentally relieved. Then back into the world in a better state than when you arrived. Hand sanitizer in abundance.

The Dogs

Hendrik is quite content to be around us more than ever in this isolating time. He is loyal and stays around home. We do go fore walks on the course – a bit icy at the moment so not many for a couple more days.

A Special Day In A Wonderful Setting

Weddings are a special day for many people involved. Here at Muskoka Highlands, we reduce that stress with attention to every detail.
But our distinguishing feature is our setting – both inside and out. The clubhouse is designed to hold about 85 guests and the picture shows how this can happen. For larger parties, we engage a tent professional to create a unique setting outside.

Do you want to feel the warmth of a timber-frame clubhouse? Drop us an inquiry – weddings@muskokahighlands.com. We will respond and we will work with you to make your day special.

Muskoka Highlands is committed to your safety while you enjoy your game. Please read our COVID procedures BEFORE booking your Tee TimeLearn More
